This was the last event for the summer term and as the turn up surprisingly was quite good children were divided in two groups: U6 and U8 and above.

U8 and above:

Rupert Glover (4/5) was in the lead up to the end and even his last round loss against Joshua Crook, who came second, did not make any difference, as he won the tournament by progressive score. Ben Murphy and Louis Norris gained 3.5 points. Ben won the bronze medal by decisive progressive score. Ellie Baldwin was the best girl.

U6: Arian Amiri scored a brilliant 5/5 and thus won the gold medal. Vivek Thakrar came second with 4/5 and Declan Thompson 3rd with 3.5 points. The only girl, Sabrina Anwer, came 4th with 3 points! Well done all!

15 WLJCC members took part in the prestigious UK Chess Challenge Megafinal on 19th and 27th May: 4 winners and 2 runners-up

It was a brilliant achievement. Well done all!

If you missed out on qualifying for this year's British Land UK Chess Challenge Megafinal, there is still a chance to do so on Saturday, 28th April. The tournament is open to children under 18 years of age on 1st September 2006.

There will be 7 rounds each of 20 minutes. Clocks may be used on the higher boards. If clocks are used the time limit will be all the moves in 10 minutes per player. If you would like to participate, please submit an entry form.

This was the last tournament for the spring term and unexpectedly 17 children turned up, of whom only 8 had signed up in advance, which made the organisation for the tournament more difficult.

Guy Cranmer managed to win his first 4 games by late "Scholar's Mate", but his last round against William Winterbotham was not so lucky. William knew how Guy has won his previous games and paid attention to Guy's opening trick, and just after the opening moves William checkmated his opponent. Children showed a good fighting spirit and some of them learnt that age difference doesn't count but the knowledge. Well done all!
